The long-awaited Unreal Endgine 5 is available now. The next-generation real-time rendering system includes a wide vatiety of revolutionary technologies, from real-time geometry and GI streaming to new character rigging, animation, level design and sound tools.
Unreal Engine 5 offers a number of interesting and new technologies, literally changing game rules. It includes the virtualized Nanite micropolygon geometry system and the real-time dynamic GI system Lumen. During the announcement, the Control Rig features, a new set of rigging tools, and new library poses were noted.
Animators will get a new high-productive full-body solver IK and a motion warp system, allowing dynamically change the animation using Blueprints.
Level Designers will get World Partition, it’s a new system, that divides levels into stream cells. Levels are structured according to the principle “one file is for each artist”, making it easier for multiple artists to work together on a level without overwriting each other’s changes.
Audio Designers will get MetaSounds – «fully programmable material processing and rendering pipeline, bringing all the benefits of procedural content creation to audio».
In addition, Quixel Bridge is built now into the Unreal Editor, which allows to drag and drop standard content directly into the levels.
Unreal Engine 5 is in early access now. The main release is expected “approximately in 2022”.
