Corona Renderer 7 recieved CoronaPhysicalMTL – a new, “PBR-based material” designed to increase compatibility with other visualization tools such as Substance 3D Collection and Quixel Mixer.
It includes transparent coating parameters for recreating car paint and gloss parameters for recreating the properties of the surface as well, and comes with 35 new presets for ordinary real materials. The inherited physical material is still available for backward compatibility with existing scenes.
The release also features an improved sky model, officially renamed the “PRG Clear Sky Model”. There are also new height and turbidity parameters, as well as a new one-click volume effect. The latter is designed to simulate atmospheric haze on aerial photographs and provides a less demanding alternative to rendering the effect using Corona Volume material.
Among other things, performance has been improved, thanks to which rendering has become faster “from 6 to 50%”.The speed increase should be higher in scenes that use material opacity, subsurface scattering or volumetric reflections, as well as when using noise reduction during rendering.
Bitmap textures are also loaded into the background after the scene is opened, which leads to an average reduction in the opening time of projects by 35% and 12%, respectively.
Corona Renderer 7 is only available by subscription for 64-bit 3ds Max 2014 and higher. The subscription price starts at$ 28.50 per month or$ 330 per year.
